Spring is the perfect time to visit the Algarve, Portugal. Between January and May, the region comes alive with mild weather, colorful blooms, and outdoor activities. Whether you’re seeking nature, family fun, golf, or relaxation, the Algarve has it all. Staying at Casa Palmeira in Porto de Mós, Lagos, means you’re perfectly located to enjoy both local adventures and day trips across the Algarve.

🌸 Witness the Almond Blooms
The Algarve countryside turns into a stunning blanket of white and pink almond blossoms from January to March, with peak bloom in February. This is the best time to take a walk, enjoy the scenery, and try local almond drinks and pastries – a seasonal specialty you won’t want to miss.
Day Trip from Casa Palmeira: If you’re staying with us, you can take a 1.5-hour scenic drive to Alta Mora, Castro Marim, for the Algarve Almond Blossom Festival 2026. The festival happens in February, when the trees are in full bloom.
Enjoy walking tours, artisan markets, live music, and cultural workshops.
Then return to Casa Palmeira for a relaxing evening. For a full guide to the festival, see our dedicated post here.

⛳ Golf at Palmares Golf Club, Lagos
If golf is on your Algarve wish list, Palmares Golf Club is just minutes from Casa Palmeira. The course is famous for its spectacular coastal views, and even if you don’t play a round, the clubhouse alone is worth the visit. It was named World’s Best Golf Clubhouse 2025, and once you’re there, you’ll understand why.
Clubhouse Dining: We stopped in for a relaxed lunch and can confidently say the burger is one of the best we’ve had in the Algarve — and trust us, our nine-year-old has tried many, so this is serious research. We also loved the fried eggs with presunto de porco preto and fries. Simple, done perfectly, and enjoyed with unbeatable views over Lagos Bay.
Al Sud – Michelin-Starred Dining (Seasonal): Palmares is also home to Al Sud, a Michelin-starred restaurant led by Chef Louis Anjos. Each dish reflects the soul of the Algarve, from sea to land, with refined flavours and thoughtful storytelling. The view over Lagos Bay completes the experience. Please note: Al Sud is temporarily closed for the season — we recommend checking directly with the restaurant for reopening dates.
180º Restaurant (On Our List): Another standout is 180º Restaurant, offering Mediterranean flavours framed by the Atlantic. Open from breakfast through dinner, it’s a relaxed yet refined spot with ocean views, perfect for lingering over a meal as the sun sets. This one is high on our list for our next visit.
